Limited spaces on the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu
The Inca Trail is a protected area of invaluable environmental and archaeological. To ensure their conservation, the access is limited to only 500 people per day, a figure which includes all visitors, guides, cooks and porters.
Important: this daily availability applies to all versions of the Inca Trail -4, 5 -, and 6— days, which means that all groups share the same quotas.
In addition, under the final regulation of the Ministry of Culture of Peru, every traveler who want to go this route, you must have two separate permissions:
Permission to enter the Inca Trail.
Permission to enter Machu Picchu, the capacity of which is limited to 4,600 people a day.
This dual authorization makes the spaces run out even faster, since thousands of people in the world dream to conquer Machu Picchu each day. That’s why, if you want to ensure this shared adventure, we recommend you to book with 6 to 10 months in advance, especially if planning to travel during high season (may to October).

Posted on Tripadvisor David IVerified Unforgettable 4-Day Inca Trail Experience with Wayki Trek Planning the Inca Trail can be challenging, especially when choosing an operator due to mixed online reviews about porter conditions and overall quality. I can confidently say that choosing Wayki Trek was one of the best decisions we made. From the very beginning, communication with the office was quick, clear, and professional. On the trail, everything was exceptionally well organized, from the quality of the camping equipment to the meals and daily logistics. One aspect we truly appreciated was being part of a small group. It made the experience far more personal, relaxed, and immersive, and allowed the days to be paced perfectly without feeling rushed or crowded. Our guide, Josce, was outstanding. He shared his deep passion and knowledge of Inca history, took the time to explain sites in detail, and perfectly paced each day so that it felt like we had the whole trail to ourselves. His attention to detail and care for the group truly elevated the experience. The entire crew deserves enormous respect. The porters were incredibly strong, kind, and clearly well looked after, something that really mattered to us when choosing an operator. Special mention to Andres, the chef: the food was exceptional and among the best we had in all of Peru, with generous portions and even insights into traditional cooking methods. We did the 4-day small group Inca Trail in January, during the rainy season, which meant the trail was quieter and the experience felt more personal, something we absolutely appreciated. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience made unforgettable by a passionate, professional, and caring team. Wayki Trek looked after us incredibly well, and we feel very lucky to have experienced the Inca Trail with them. Highly recommended.Posted on Tripadvisor Paul FVerified Great low season cultural experience and trek in Jan 2026 I did the 4 day small group Inca Trail in January with the Wakyi Experience at the beginning. Our guide was Jose. The trail was not busy as January is the rainy season. We were advised to prong a poncho as well as our quality rain coats. However, we were lucky with the weather, it was mainly raining at night. I highly recommend the Wayki Experience. We visited the village, stayed with one of the team, and had direct interaction with the culture through food, digging potatoes and daily ceremonies. We also got to know our chefs and porters. Jose was very knowledgeable and diligent in imparting that knowledge on the Inca, Quecha culture and modern Peru. I overhead some other groups and got the impression we were getting much more detail. The pace was entirely manageable for our group who were fairly fit and ranged from 27 to 63 years old. I highly recommend Wayki if you are looking for culture and history in a small group. Posted on Tripadvisor Phillip HVerified Trip of a lifetime We did the 4 day Inka trek with Wayki Trek and I can't recommend them highly enough. The trek was simply amazing and something we will never forget. Wayki were incredible from start to finish. The communication from our initial enquiries right through to the conclusion of the trek was perfect. Wayki provided the perfect environment for us to just relax and enjoy this incredible experience. We can't thank them enough. From the staff, to the chefs, the porters and our guide Joyce, everyone was brilliant. The food was amazing and Joyce's knowledge of the Inkas was second to none. And the sight of Macchu Picchu after four days hiking was just incredible!!Posted on Tripadvisor Laura475Verified Amazing time at Machu Picchu Our family of 5 had a great day trip to Machu Picchu. They helped me build a custom tour for my family of 5 - including 3 teens - where we wanted to do the main circuit as well as the Wayna Picchu circuit on the same day. They made great recommendations on tour times, which were perfect. We did the 6am 2A and the 10am 3A and were able to watch the clouds clear early in the AM which gave it such a great mystical feel. The team at Wayki Trek was fantastic leading up to the trip making me feel comfortable that we'd chosen a great company. Thank you to Carlos and Américo for creating and supporting a great trip from my first inquiry email all the way through the trip. And thank you to Juan, our guide the day of, who meet us at our hotel and managed everything for the day with our tickets and bus accommodation. Juan was incredible and very knowledgeable. As the master planner in our family it was hard leaving control completely in the hands of someone else for this epic day. They were fantastic and I can't recommend Wayki Trek enough.Posted on Tripadvisor Rodrigo CVerified Amazing Inca Trail Experience Had an amazing experience doing the inca trail with my wife. Jose was an amazing guide, very knowledgeable, making sure we were doing ok and encouraging us along the hike. The porters were simply amazing and the cook has set an impossible bar for all subsequent backpacking adventures, the food was simply amazing. Won't forget this experience anytime soon, highly recommend them.Posted on Tripadvisor NZtripVerified Amazing porters and cook We really enjoyed the Inca Trail, there were numerous Inca sites along the route which really helped put Machu Picchu in context. I would certainly recommend it over visiting Machu Picchu alone. While we like hiking, I am certainly not a camper, however the equipment was all good quality and clean and I was comfortable. The porters (German and his team Fernando, Rosendro, Domengo, Wilbert and the younger Fernando) were super professional, we could not have been better looked after. Special mention to the younger Fernando who served us at mealtimes. The food was AMAZING, the best we had in Peru, it was really interesting to watch the chef Elias and his assistant Modesto cook amazing things on two gas rings. Elias is a real pro and I was really impressed. The only thing I would do differently would be to take the option of spending an extra night in Aguas Calientes, so you can visit Machu Picchu on the morning of the fourth day and then go back to Matchu Picchu for a second visit the following day after a good sleep.Posted on Tripadvisor Jen SVerified Trek of a lifetime thanks to Wayki and Miguel Wow! I had the trek of a lifetime with Wayki Trek. Our guide, Miguel was fantastic throughout and was kind and patient with my 13 and 10 year olds! Miguel was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and brought the whole trail 'to life'. Wayki took care of all the organisation and communicated from start to finish. I would 100% recommend Wayki for any trek in Peru (do ask for Miguel as your guide if you can!) We found Wayki to be excellent communicators and very organized. The Inca Trail experience was as they described. We did the “Wayki Experience” staying with the porter’s family and really enjoyed it. On the Inca Trail, our guide kept us safe, provided tips to make it easier, and gave us accurate briefings for the upcoming sections. Having a smaller group (7) ensured that everyone got the attention they needed. Where and when we stoped for lunches and the night were thoughtfully planned to make it the best day. In addition, our guide, Josce, gave us great information on the many Inca sites we passed. He was also a wonderful host, starting conversations and helping the group get to know each other. The porters do an incredible job and we couldn’t believe the excellent meals the chefs prepared from the camp kitchen. Overall the entire experience was outstanding and we highly recommend Wayki if you are planning to do the Inca Trail.
