Availability

Machu Picchu is one of the most visited destinations of the world. That is why planning ahead is key. Our tour full day in shared pool is available all year round, but the entrance to the citadel is subject to quotas and limited to the circuits authorized officers.

Availability of Machu Picchu

Heritage protected and highly-demanded

Machu Picchu is a historical sanctuary of incalculable value, recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage. Your protection is everyone’s responsibility, and therefore the income is strictly regulated by the Ministry of Culture of Peru, with a maximum capacity of visitors daily:

  • 4,500 people per day in the low season (November – march)
  • 5,600 people per day in high season (April – October)

This total amount includes passengers arriving by train, the Inca Trail in all its versions, and also by alternative routes such as Salkantay, Lares, Inca Jungle, and many others.

Due to its global popularity and the limited number of daily revenue, the demand is very high, especially on routes that are more complete.

For this reason, it is recommended to book at least 6  to 10 months in advance, especially if you visit between may and October (high season). This ensures not only income, but also better access to the more complete circuits. Last minute bookings are subject to availability and usually have options more limited.

Circuits and routes official

The tour inside of the citadel remains one of the 4 circuits officially established, which are allocated according to availability at the time of booking.

Each circuit has specific routes and levels of complexity. The routes that are more complete (as the Circuit 2) have a higher demand, so book ahead of time is key to ensuring an enriching experience.

The 4 official circuits:

  • Circuit 1: high road with viewpoints (Home of the Guardian) and agricultural sector.
  • Circuit 2: classical Route, completed by temples and major squares. (High demand)
  • Circuit 3: Route low for urban, industrial, and royal temples.
  • Circuit 4: Path floor with access to the Intihuatana, or Temple of the Sun (according to availability)
